One of the main characteristics that makes the human species so unique, is the ability to love and be loved. There is some sort of empowering feeling that our bodies and brains create when we do something that we enjoy, a feeling of confidence, pleasure, and meaning. It’s like an internal star chart! For every action that you enjoy doing, your body rewards itself with feelings of goodness.
On the opposite spectrum our brains and bodies create another feeling that’s just as strong, but not nearly as empowering. Some people call it fear, some people call it hate. I call it your internal alarm. It is no accident, by any means when your heart feels ill when you do something you DO NOT enjoy. The feelings of discomfort are warning you to do something more desirable.
At some point in history, people stopped listening to the alarm. We accepted these feelings as part of life’s journey, we dismissed the discomfort thinking that it will get better if we just ‘stick’ it out. We think that we have to put up with what we don’t want in order to make a living.
It’s a lie.
If you’re not doing what you love, something is wrong. It’s simple. Your heart wants to give you thousands of stars if not millions! So why put yourself in any other circumstance? To sacrifice that gift is to lead a life with no purpose.
